Yoga Photo Challenge #lululemon.

I just saw that Lululemon is doing the What the Focus (WTF – not super thrilled about their choosen name of the challenge…have to say it is a bit off…) Photo Challenge that is starting on September 1st. So I figured – why not – I should try to follow the challenge since I love to take pictures & yoga – so I am going to try to incorporate some sort of yoga symbolism/meaning into each daily picture I will take.

Wish me good luck & please let me know if there is anyone else who is doing the Lululemon Photo Challenge (WTF) as I would love to follow you as well!

Namaste to you on this Friday!

Daily Guideline Sheet.

A Day of #Detox.

I missed blogging yesterday – was a bit busy working the day before and yesterday I was feeling a little under the weather. Today I am a back and I decided to start my day with a little detox. I feel I need to cleanse myself both from physically detoxing and mentally cleanse my mind. So I am starting my day fresh with a cup of tea and will end my day by talking a walk around Diamond Head during sunset.

I will not be doing yoga today but tomorrow I will continue my daily regiment of doing yoga and will do Bikram bright and early in the morning to start fresh again for this long holiday weekend!

Namaste to you on this Thursday!

Pssst…..I have something fun to share to you tomorrow as well…stay tuned:)

Day 16 out of Infinity – Busy Tuesday

Yesterday I didn’t go to my Ashtanga class because in the morning I got a last minute request for the company I am a partner in – to provide a potential vendor/client some video clips etc for a presentation. So when the heat gets around my feet – when I am overly blasted with work {also due to procrastination – which is another trait that I am working on} I move myself from my office to the kitchen table. It gives me more space and air to just throw things around just get things done.

In the evening my Japanese healer friend Noriko came over and she had prepared a homemade “Hawaii” pizza with pineapple, basil and ham, it was delicious! {I wish I had taken a picture of it for you} & she gave me a treatment of “cracks”. At times she cracks me to get all my ligaments & bones straight and it is awesome. Now I am not tense in my shoulders anymore & my back is not as tight.

Today will be a busy Tuesday as well – still have a long way to go to get the things off of my list. At times I wish we had more time on a day & energy so that we could do everything we would like to do – but I guess then we might not enjoy the little things we enjoy & love soo much, if we got to do it all the time – things like yoga!

Namaste to you on this busy Tuesday & keep your finger that the presentation will go well!

My little office space & where I get to see a little portion of Diamond Head through my window.

My kitchen table & busy as a bee.

Day 15 out of Infinity – Yoga Shakes while Working.

Yesterday after my Bikram class I got company from a friend I haven’t seen for a while. So we decided to go & eat at our favorite restaurant {which of course is Indian} The food was delicious as always & it was a lot of fun to see my visiting friend again.

Today I have a lot of to-do’s on my schedule since I have had several post-yoga-CRASHES the past few days {I still haven’t been able to find the magic formula}…those daily naps are wonderful! But they don’t get the work done….so today I might take the day off….it all depends on what happens when the clock starts to tick around 11:00 – and if I get the yoga shakes of needing to release all the tension from all the work load that I have in front of me.

Tihi…I am starting to sound like a yoga addict rather than a yoga soul…

…but…back I now need to go to refocus myself with the third “work” eye.

Favorite restaurant – Monsoon – Indian Tandoori Shrimp

Day 14 out of Infinity – A Moment of Sunday Chai.

So, since I started having a #Chai tea craving – I decided to fix the solution of cost. I am now working on getting the most tastiest Chai tea to replace my Starbucks Chai tea addiction since it cost an arm and a leg to buy it.

On top of it – the other day I read from another blogger Lisa BeWell who is blogging about her food-stamp challenge that the average person who benefits from food stamps get about $4 of stamp per day – an average of $28 to $30 a week. Right when I read it I had just bought my Chai tea from Starbucks. I had just sipped up a person’s daily food supply in 30 minutes, which made me feel horrible.

So today – we actually got some rain on the little island of Oahu and I made some tea myself & it tasted delicious – almost the same as Starbucks. Plus my Bikram practice today was excellent – I do believe that the practice have a lot to do with the teacher you have – and today the teacher and the tea was excellent!

A Moment of #Chai.

Had to share – Yoko taught me the right form in the head stand the other day – so now I got my head stand going!! It’s all about the bandha.

Day 13 out of Infinity – A Little #Aloha

Figured I would share a little #Aloha with you. Just read on Facebook a post written by a friend from NY who lives in Hawaii who posted “In the wake of all the shootings lately, May I suggest we trade guns for surfboards, anger for aloha and Manhattan for Waikiki” – which I totally agree with.

However, we might not be able to fit all the New Yorkers in Hawaii but instead I figured I would share a little #Aloha spirit with you as I today took a power walk/run around my favorite place in the world – Diamond Head.

Namaste & Aloha to You on this Saturday!

Diamond Head – the best #run #walk in the world.

The Fruit of Joy & Sweetness #Pineapple

The Affection of Goods – the Palm Tree

#Aloe growing out in my little mini garden.

Yoga Mantra of the Day: True Happiness

Today I decided to create a Yoga Mantra quote. Since I have a tendency to be a perfectionist – I created a quote that contradicts my personality. Nothing can be perfect, which is why I decided to create this mantra of the day.

I hope that you will enjoy it as well.

Day 12 out of Infinity – Struggle & Arghh

Today I went to Bikram, it was a day of struggles & arghhs….

I got a new teacher today – and it felt like each pose was just a long drag & struggle. There where no pace in the class. I had a few arghh moments and initially blamed it on the teacher because I thought it went way to slow…but in the middle of class – I started to feel bad that I had sent all those stink-eyes to the teacher and started to smile & let it go.

Isn’t it amazing how we all tend to think negatively & blame everything or everyone else before it hits us that maybe it isn’t the world/their fault – but it is just the way you approach the situation. I should have enjoyed each pose as it will give me the strength to stay longer & really feel the pose….

So, I still have a long way to go with working on my positivity! I will keep it as Scarlett say in “Gone with the Wind” for today & start fresh by tomorrow – “I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow.”

Happy #Aloha Friday to You All!

Day 11 out of Infinity – The Science of Craving

My life used to be all about craving – for 13 years and a few months I craved. At that time it was cigarettes. Once I kicked the habit & addiction of smoking – the craving continued. I thought I was going to be relieved. Now I got another problem – sweets, exercise & food. There is soo much sugar in everything we eat – even my favorite Starbucks Chai Tea Latte has calories that would cover a whole meal.

Since my quit smoking campaign I have gained 7 pounds – my quit smoking campaign/cold turkey have now been 2 months and 24 days.

I used to not like any of the above but now I crave all of the above.

Wonder if the craving ever will stop? If it is not craving for food it is craving for something else…need to figure out the science of craving as I now got the science of habit covered.

New Craving….also an expensive one….Starbucks Chai Tea Latte.

Day 10 out of Infinity – Post-Yoga-CRASH-Syndrome & the Food Bar

I still haven’t got into the habit of waking up early – and I didn’t manage to do it fully during my 7 day challenge either. I am a night person who loves to get work done at night, so for me to wake up early doesn’t jive at times….but I enjoy mornings – it makes you feel that you get more things done.

So instead, I went to my Ashtanga class with Yoko. Afterwards I followed Britanni Lynn’s advice that she gave me for my previous post – of trying to replenish myself with energy, so that I don’t crash after the yoga class – the “post-yoga-CRASH-syndrome”. I went to the Food Bar at Whole Foods. It was soo good. I ate the whole thing – which probably wasn’t the best idea:)

Now I am feeling much better – but getting a little drowsy… So I think today’s food intake was not the magical recipe to keep myself off of taking my daily nap aka the post-yoga-crash-syndrome route. Tomorrow I will try something else.

Namaste to you on this Wednesday & now I am off to my daily nap:)!

The Whole Food Bar – Green Curry w/ Delicious Salad

Day 9 out of Infinity – Daily Naps & Discipline

I am lucky enough to be able to work from home. But at times it is difficult to find the discipline to get the work done – I rather go and do yoga:) For the past few weeks my mind have been in yoga rather than work. However, I do know that I need to get back to work again. I have been working but not as much as I should be working. I just need to learn to do my scheduling right & follow it, which is easier said than done.

One problem I got is that once I am finished with my yoga training, I get exhausted and this is both from doing Bikram & Ashtanga. The muscles in my body feel like they all get inflamed – which makes me super tired & I go for my daily nap. Once my nap is over I feel superb! But this process does take away a few hours of my day…This is something I really need to work on – otherwise I will need to make some changes in my priorities, which I don’t really want to make….

I am always open for suggestions!:)

Yoga Mantra of the Day: Happiness is an inside job.

Since I am a graphic designer – I sometimes create inspirational quotes. If you have any inspirational quotes you would like me to create just comment those requests down and I might be able to design something inspirational from it. It is a part of my #karmagivingback project that I have created for myself.

I feel that it is important to give back – it doesn’t need to be anything material – as it also can be a service or an inspiration. Today’s yoga mantra is a quote that I really liked – which is something I have been working on for myself for the past few months as well. Finding happiness – but we all have to start by ourselves in order to share the happiness with others.

Day 7 out of 7 – Bikram Sunday

Today is the last day of my 7 day Yoga Challenge – however, I am thinking about continuing it to see how long I can last for. So I guess I am making a unofficial Yoga Challenge with a “infinity” count of days:). I will be mixing Bikram with Ashtanga together with my own yoga workout that I do from home – at home I do a mixture of Ashtanga & Bikram but without the heat.

Throughout this week – my technique has gotten a little bit better. I wish that my Bikram class would help me with the technique as my Ashtanga class does. I love Bikram but sometimes I know that my technique is off – and I would have loved to have someone show me the right way, which would help me both with improving my form and also help preventing any injuries – other than that I love it!

Tomorrow it will be Ashtanga class with Yoko again – to get my technique back. But my standing bow pose has totally got better – but only on one side…I will show you my two leg differences during this upcoming week.

Now I am going to enjoy my Sunday Brunch Swedish pancakes I just made.

Namaste to you on this beautiful Sunday!

On my way to yoga class!

This is the studio I go to – Bikram Yoga Studio in  (Kaimuki) Honolulu, Hawaii.

Day 6 out of 7 – Replacing the Habit

Now I am on to day 6 out of 7 in my yoga practice. It is not as hard as I thought. I really started to enjoy exercising….I actually think I got a bit of an addictive personality. After numerous counts of quit smoking tries last year – a friend of mine asked me what I did after I quit smoking. And I asked her what she meant. She meant that I needed to replace the smoking habit with something else.

So, for my hundredth try of quit smoking that happened just 3 months ago – I managed to find something to replace my nicotine addiction with…..exercise & yoga! At least I found a healthy choice of replacement. But now I also got another addiction – peanut butter….:)

My delicious peanut butter sandwich.

Just 3 seconds later….

Day 5 out of 7 – the Right State of Mind

Just got back from my yoga practice – I am now on day 5 out of 7. Today was a beautiful day & yoga was amazing – I went up bright and early to make it to the 7am class! Some days are soo much better than other days. Today I felt like a star:) The room wasn’t too hot, my feet didn’t get numb & I was in the right state of mind. I even tried to do a little meditation throughout the moves. Never done that before as I always used to focus on my “wandering mind” – but today I had control!

It is amazing how life is a roller coaster – some days are tough and some days are easy – all we have to remember is those good & happy-feel days to make the tough days shine!

BTW – wanted to share a great curry vegetable soup recipe that I did the other day – it turned out delicious!

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Curry Vegetable Soup

  • Cauliflower, raw, 2 cup
  • Onions, raw, 1 cup, chopped
  • Ginger Root, 1 tsp
  • Garlic, 1 tsp
  • Potato, raw, 1 large
  • Curry powder, 1.5 tbsp
  • Cumin powder, 1.5 tbsp
  • Cilantro, raw, 1 tbsp
  • Water, tap, 5 cup (8 fl oz)
  • Red Ripe Tomatoes, 1 cup, chopped
  • Olive Oil, 1 tbsp
  • Salt, 1 tbsp

1) Chop all the vegetables. 2) Saute the onion & garlic. 3) Add the Curry powder & vegetables  to the sauteed onion mix. 4) Add the water and let it cook for about 20 minutes or until the potatoes and the cauliflower are becoming soft.

 – Sprinkle with some Greek Yoghurt & Cilantro – Enjoy!

Day 4 out of 7 – Mind on Overload.

Head to Knee Pose. On my first day I couldn’t touch my feet – Now I can!

In my previous post I mentioned that anything can be accomplished if you just put your mind to it, which I totally believe in!

However, at times I have a tendency to freeze. I think the freezing happens when I want to accomplish something too much or when I am overloaded.

I am a bit of a perfectionist – which is the reason for why I choose to start myself with just a 7 day yoga challenge. I didn’t want to overload myself and not be able to maintain my goal. I think we all make mistakes by overloading ourselves. However, a dream I just got not too long ago is to one day, {some day} – be able to wake up and do yoga in front of my husband sleeping in the morning like the Equinox trailer {what at talent she is & what a beautifully filmed trailer}. I want to be able to do the headstand perfectly when doing Ashtanga series without having to put my feet against the wall for support.

But I still need to remember that I do have a long way to go – and not to overload myself and still yet enjoy the progress I am making for each day I go to my yoga class. Maybe one day I will be able to wake up in the morning and do the yoga sequence like the woman in the Equinox video {when the time is right}.

All I need to remember is to stop putting my mind on overload..

Day 3 out of 7 – Off to Bikram I go.

As I decided in the beginning of this week that I was going to do my very own 7 day Bikram Challenge – I am now on day 3 out of 7. I am now on my way to the Bikram class – it has been tough to wake up at 7am every morning….today I went up right to get to the 9am class as my alarm clock went off a bit late. Or I did the snoozing thing… Tomorrow I will be in time for the 7am class again.

Day 2 out of 7 – The Juicy Juice Yoga Cup.

Since I started my health craze & yoga journey – for some reason my whole mental thinking changed. This unconscious mental change has not been because of any group pressure – I actually don’t communicate with anyone in my yoga class. It would have been fun to get to now other Yogi peers! For some reason it looks like most of the people in class like to be by themselves….maybe some day I will get to know some of the other yogis in class.

However, on a personal note I have become more healthier – my husband even bought us a juicer the other day. So I have now replaced my coffee cup & Starbucks Chai’s with my new healthy “juicy juice” as I call it. If you would have meet me by the beginning of this year – you would not have seen me with a “juicy juice” – all you would have seen is me puffing away with my coffee & cigarette!

Amazing how you can change your mental state & mind in a fairly short period of time.

The wisdow of today is to keep your mind strong – because if you go deep enough you can accomplish anything.

Namaste to You on this Beautiful Tuesday!

Day 1 out of 7 – My Yoga Challenge

So I made a minor change to my 7 day yoga challenge. Yesterday I went to do my Bikram yoga to get warmed up for my 7 day yoga challenge:) – however, I ended up leaving class – my feet got numb just after the 1st sequence of the half moon/backward bending & hands to feet pose…but I continued. After the standing head-to-knee-pose I totally lost focus – couldn’t’t find my balance in the standing bow pulling pose at all…., I had a hard time breathing and my legs where shaking. So I had to excuse myself & leave class – when I got home I googled a bit and saw that it could have been because I didn’t have enough oxygen in my legs – and I needed to drink some electrolytes.

So today – I decided to go to my other favorite yoga class instead of Bikram {as yesterday was a bit discouraging and this was my first time ever “giving up”} Ashtanga class with Yoko. Yoko is an amazing yoga teacher and I didn’t get the numb feet in today’s class. But tomorrow I will be going to the Bikram class again but first I will be drinking some electrolytes!

Happy Monday!

I ♥ Yoga

So other than loving yoga I am also a designer by heart. If I get the right freedom & inspiration I design. Actually, the time I enjoy the most is when I design random things like the one design quote on top without having it being work related or requested. I guess my design turns out the best when I have the freedom to design anything I like. If you love yoga – feel free to grab the design – it is free for any of my yogi peers to use. Enjoy the I ♥ Yoga quote of the Monday.
